Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

Developed by Francesco Cirillo in the 1980s, the Pomodoro Technique uses 25-minute focused work sessions followed by 5-minute breaks to improve productivity and reduce mental fatigue.

Why 25 minutes?

25 minutes is long enough to make meaningful progress on a task but short enough to maintain intense focus. Research shows our attention naturally wanes after 20-30 minutes.

What should I do during breaks?

Move your body — stretch, walk, or do light exercises. Avoid checking social media or email during short breaks. Long breaks (15 min) can include a short walk or snack.

How many Pomodoros should I aim for per day?

Most knowledge workers complete 8-12 Pomodoros per day. Start with a goal of 4-6 and increase gradually.

Are my sessions saved?

Yes. Sessions are saved to your browser's localStorage. They persist between page reloads but are specific to your device and browser.

How do notifications work?

Click 'Notify' to grant browser notification permission. You'll receive alerts when each work session or break ends, even if the tab is in the background.

Can I customize the timer durations?

Yes. Click Settings to change work duration, short break, long break, and when the long break triggers.

What is auto-start?

When enabled, the next phase (break or work session) starts automatically without requiring you to click Start.
